With the increased legalization of marijuana throughout the United States of America, healthcare providers are seeing more patients using it recreationally and as medication. As use increases, specifically for anxiety and chronic pain, our knowledge base, and research is ever-changing.
Controversy surrounds the drug with the Federal v. States legal issues plus the effectiveness of its use as medication and whether the research supports that claim.
There is concern over marijuana use disorder and the fact that it may be a “gateway” drug that leads to the use and abuse of other drugs. Healthcare professionals are caught in an ethical dilemma with both the legal question as well as the question of marijuana as a medication. This course presents what marijuana is, what it is trying to become, and the research and statistics related to its use.
This course will present the codes of conduct for CCMC, CRCC, CDMS, and NADAAC. We will review the codes in the context of ethical dilemmas presented by the complexities of marijuana usage in our society.
*CCM, CRC, CDMS, CLCP, CVE, CVRP (2), MSCC, MCBAP, CCAPP, & NAADAC ETHICS CREDIT APPROVED. The CCMC Professional Conduct will be referenced in this presentation.
