Understanding the Opioid Crisis: From Prescription Practices to Public Health Solutions

The opioid epidemic has significantly impacted the United States for more than a decade, leading to an ongoing crisis and a marked increase in overdose fatalities. Since the 1990s, opioids have played a prominent role in medical practice; however, prescriptions were often issued based on flawed research, later found to be inaccurate. This course examines the historical development of the opioid crisis, the subsequent rise in heroin and fentanyl use, and the growing prevalence of overdose cases.
